Kristin and Nate explore the old mill. | Kentucky Wedding Photographer

kentucky wedding photographer-2

“We like to go out to eat good food and watch Netflix,” was the response I got from Kristin when I asked her what she and Nate like to do in their downtime.

I instantly liked them.

Fast forward to a few months later when I received an email from Kristin asking if I would be willing to travel to Falls of Rough in Western Kentucky. It’s a place that many stories from their past stem from. The old bridge they visited close to midnight. The ancient, rundown mill they’ve explored in the past. We relived it. We relived all of it. And it was lovely.

Carol and Frank elope. // Savannah Wedding Photography

savannah wedding photographer-36

Four years had passed since I photographed Whitney’s wedding. We had kept somewhat in touch over social media. We saw each other’s biggest life events over the internet: the unfortunate passing of her father, her move to the western coast of Australia, the birth of her and Rick’s daughter, Pippa. But I wasn’t expecting the message I received from her in May: she was planning another wedding with about a week’s notice. This one for her mother. Carol was the happiest Whitney had seen in the past couple years, she confided in me. All because of Frank, a retired New Jersey homicide detective who loved to tell jokes and make others laugh. Carol wanted to get married while Whitney was still in the United States and Whitney was set to reunite with Rick in Australia in a couple weeks. There wasn’t much time. Would I come down to Savannah? she asked.

There was no way I was going to say no.

Anne and Robert explore the farm // Lexington Wedding Photography

I met Anne and Robert at Robert’s family farm. It’s been in their family for generations. I soon found myself in a 1980s workhorse of a truck with a cold beer in hand, being given a tour of the angus farm complete with old houses and tobacco barns.

We took some photos along the way.

Oh, and that gun in some of the images? A Kentucky Long Rifle.

Don’t mess with Robert and Anne.

Erin & Nic. A wedding. Louisville Wedding Photographer

Erin was calm and collected before she walked down the aisle to marry Nic. Compared to two weeks prior, this rainy day was heaven. You see, Erin is a teacher at Henryville High School. So two weeks prior to her wedding, Erin was surviving this.

Nic is a musician, surrounded by musicians, and (apparently) comes from a musician. I’ve never photographed so many artists take the stage during a wedding reception. But weddings are about the celebration of love, and that’s exactly what went down that night.
